Fabulous essay Jane, I loved reading this. I agree life is a series of translations. Also translations are part of us understanding more about ourselves and how to express ourselves. I often think back to the first poems I was performing - simple language in limerick form for comedy value. What I was really saying was: I am desperate for human connection. Being raised by a single parent who was void of empathy I found a way to understand myself through writing, hearing and reading poetry. Thank you Jane for being a great friend and teacher. Oh I agree with you about the ways into poetry - I began making poems that rhymed - that was how I learned to slowly express what it was I really wanted to say - and as someone estranged from family too, I send you all my love in return xxx
